Gwaine's background
[Personality]
Out of all of the knights, Gwaine would probably be seen as the most laidback and carefee. He does not have much of a plan for his life, simply going with the flow. It is not above him to joke around and steal a snack from the castle's kitchens (or from Arthur's own plate for that matter) when he has the chance. His cheerfulness is also seen in how he finds time to crack a joke even in if the outcome may seem rather bleak.
Prior to joining Arthur's fight against Morgana and Morgause in an attempt to regain Camelot, Gwaine was something of a drifter, taking wherever his feet took him. Or to wherever the closest tavern in town would be. (He's even made a joke to Merlin that he's been to every tavern the town the other man had found him in.) This goes to say the he's a bit of a drunkard, always looking to have a good time with the other tavern-goers and a good drink to go along with it.
Even though Gwaine can be perceived as a bit of a troublemaker considering his tavern hopping history, he knows how to keep his nose clean especially as a knight of Camelot. He is able to remain loyal to his friends and the king valuing the few bonds that he is able to make, despite his clear dislike for those in nobility. This dislike stems from his father's death as a knight while fighting for Caerleon. Although his father's title would mean that Gwaine is a noble himself, he does his best not to make this a widely known fact only having told Merlin about it.
His selflessness shines through, time and time again throughout the series as well. A good example of such is when he returns to Camelot despite banishment to make sure that Arthur isn't killed by the two thugs who had joined the melee and when he immediately joins Merlin in helping with Arthur's quest to the Perilous Lands and many countless times afterward. He is more than willing to drop what he's doing to come to his friend's aid, wanting nothing else back in exchange.
One may think that Gwaine is a highly optimistic man considering that despite the odds weighing against him more times than one, he's still fought alongside his friends. He's even commented that he joined the bar fight with Arthur and Merlin during their first meeting simply because "he liked the odds".
He's also a bit of a chatterbox not wanting things to become too dull. One can only stand the silence of walking through the woods in silence after all. Arthur's even said that going out with Gwaine on a search for Merlin was punishment, seeing as the day would be wasted on mindless chatter.
He is a bit of a flirt but he doesn't push things further than he can or should. When it's obvious that he's down for the count, he doesn't try to make the woman feeling any more uncomfortable from his advances and steps away while he's still ahead.
[Specialties/Abilities]
Gwaine is a skilled swordsman. He uses a style unlike anyone has ever seen before, making it easy to recognize him if you've seen him fight with a sword at least once. From the point he's being taken from, there hasn't been a battle Gwaine has not won.
But swordfighting isn't the only thing he does well. Considering he's prone to getting into various bar fights, he's learned to defend himself without the use of weapons. He's proven to be quick-witted using whatever is around to his advantage, whether it be furniture around the tavern or a pitcher of mead he had been drinking. Though he will say using the former is always a waste.
He's displayed some knowledge of magic, recognizing it being used on such things as the swords used in the melee at Camelot (saying that despite being blunt, the edge could still pierce a man's skin easily) and identifying that Wyverns were close relatives to dragons.
[Affection]
Come at him, ladies.
